I met Robin and her family at Cheesman Park last weekend in October. After shooting families of no more than four for a while, the challenge for me this time was the larger group of seven. The bigger the group, the more I have to focus on the basics (like making sure everyone is in the frame and in view). There seems less room for spontaneity and play. I find, though, that if you set up the shot as best you can, then just keep shooting, you're bound to capture both those rare moments when everyone is facing the camera with eyes wide open, as well as some fun little moments in between.
Then, of course, you can always break it down into smaller groups and suggest they throw things!
And you might just get one of your all-time favorites!
